This delicate pendant necklace features a genuine Greek Ephesos Bee coin from 202-150 B.C. set with a 14k gold and natural emerald bezel setting.
EPHESOS - Greek cities liked to represent their cities with certain wildlife on their coins. Ephesos chose the bee and the deer as they are representative of their patron goddess, Artemis. Being the goddess of the hunt, Artemis was often shown riding a deer. Her priestesses were called "bees of the goddess"; and as such, the bee became a symbol for her. This particular coin was one of a group minted between 172-111 B.C. in Phoenicia as a symbol of their close alliance with Ephesos.
