Gratian - Son of Valentinan I who came to rule the Western Roman Empire in 375 AD, and later gained control of the Eastern Empire as well after the Roman defeat at the Battle of Adrianopole (378 AD). Was killed fleeing to the Alps in 383 AD after being abandoned by his troops due to a lack of funds to pay their payroll.
This coin depicts military strength with two soldiers on the back and the words GLORIA EXERCITVS or "glory of the army" around the top.
