This pendant is handcrafted in Nepal out of sterling silver, Kingman Turquoise, and Mohave set Sleeping Beauty Turquoise around the edge. Mohave is a process where pieces of natural turquoise stone pieced together to create one large stone by inserting bronze between the pieces.  It reminds me of the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is restored by piecing the broken pieces back together with gold.  The metalwork done here is repousse - an ancient form of bas relief sculpture.

TURQUOISE got its name from early trade routes - Europeans ended up getting the stone from the Turkish bazaars. Turquoise has been a prominent stone throughout most cultures for thousands of years. It is seen as a symbol of wisdom and nobility.

The KINGMAN TURQUOISE Mine is one of (if not the) oldest and highest producing mine in Arizona. Native Americans found the mine over 1000 years ago. It is famous for both its sky blue turquoise on one side of the mine and its green turquoise on the other side (via Turquoise Mountain). Its sky blue variant is the most expensive and sought after turquoise specimen, and the greener variant rivals Sleeping Beauty in value and demand.
